Aramstone
Caradoc
1.5 miles of right bank salmon & coarse fishing on the middle Wye, located between Ross and Hereford. Set in beautiful and secluded surroundings, this is one of the classic middle Wye salmon fisheries, also offering first class coarse fishing for barbel, chub and pike. A number of croys along the bank enable easy access to most of the salmon pools. Where required, wading is relatively easy. Access to the water is very easy as it is possible to drive along the bank for almost the entire length of the beat. Canoe traffic can be heavy from 10am to 4pm at weekends during the warmer months, and especially during bank holidays.
Rocklands
Stacklands
Three meadows (approx.900m) on the left bank immediately upstream of the footbridge at Kings Caple. The top end is on the inside of a bend with shallower water near the bank, while downstream near the footbridge the BAA fishing is on the outside of a bend with deeper water on the near side.

Backney
Approximately 1 mile of double bank fishing located a few miles upstream of Ross. The fishery is open exclusively for salmon fishing from March 15th to June 15th and given the right water conditions, offers a good chance of a Wye springer. There are several named pools to try and croys from which to fish. The lower sections around The Monument are characterised by shallower, faster water providing good opportunities for fly fishing. Wading is required here but is relatively easy over the gravel riverbed. The middle and upper sections are deeper and slower and more suitable for spinning, as is the Bridge Pool at the bottom end of the fishery. Access to the entire length is good although bankside vegetation in the summer months can become challenging. The fishery retains the use of 1 rod at all times.
A guiding/ghillie service for anglers is available from Backney’s long-serving river keeper, Keith Maddox, who has a wealth of knowledge of the beat. If you wish to book him for a day or just a few hours, he can be contacted directly on 07927 456 214.
