Glanwye

Privately Owned fishery.

Llyn Em

Half a mile of double and single bank fishing approx. 2 miles downstream of Builth Wells. Lower Glanwye offers salmon fishing along with some first class sport for trout and grayling, a small part of which is fishable from the bank.
Most of the beat does require wading, however, and as with most of the upper Wye, stud or felt-soled waders are necessary. The beat can easily cater for one salmon rod or two trout/grayling rods per day.

Plas Gwyn

425 yards of left bank fishing on the upper Wye, a few miles down-stream of Builth Wells. Plas Gwyn offers salmon, trout and grayling fishing as well as chub and dace for the coarse fisherman. There is a very promising salmon pool with records of sizeable fish having been taken on this stretch of the river over many years. The riverbed is a mixture of bedrock and gravel, chest waders are advisable with stud/felt shoes mandatory.

Chapel House

Abernant

Just under 1 mile of mostly left bank fishing on the upper Wye, a few miles downstream of Builth Wells. Abernant offers the salmon anglers two excellent high water salmon pools: Lady Alexander’s Catch and Abernant Stream. The Edw Pool and Stone Catch are well worth a cast too. The riverbed is a mostly gravel so wading is relatively easy for an upper Wye beat. The Stone Catch and Edw Pool are more boulders and bedrock so wading is difficult in places there. Chest waders are required to get the best out of the fishing, with stud or stud/felt soles mandatory.

Pwll-y-Faedda

The Pwll-y-Faedda beat is just above the Erwood Bridge and stretches for 850 yards of double bank and a further 60 yards of single bank fishing. Known as one of the most attractive beats on the Upper Wye, Pwll-y-Faedda provides eight good pools which may be fished early or late season at most heights of water. The greater part of the water fishes from the bank or with easy rock wading. This stretch has some very deep pools which can hold some good sized trout. Grayling, pike, and chub have also been taken in these waters.

Ty-Newydd

Approximately 1.5 miles of double bank main river fishing some 7 miles downstream and south of Builth Wells. The Wye is substantial in width here (approx 70 yards) and is suitable for expert and less experienced fly fishers alike. Ty-Newydd has excellent fly fishing for salmon, trout and grayling throughout its length. Some of the salmon pools have boards to ease the burden of wading but please remember you must wear studs to stand on these – felt offers no grip whatsoever. Otherwise, if wading, felt or studded soles are an absolute must.

Gromain

Gromain & Upper Llanstephan is a 1.5 mile stretch of mixed single and double bank upper Wye fishing. The beat is well maintained and suitable for fly fishers at all levels. The Wye here is a big river, some 70 yards across in places, running over slate bedrock with the deep pools and fast runs. For salmon anglers there are 17 named pools and the beat provides fishing over a good range of water heights. Some of the pools have boards from which to fish but overall, this part of the Wye is relatively difficult to wade so felt or studded soles are an absolute must. For trout and grayling anglers there is a wide range of water on offer – dry fly flats, gravel runs, pocket water, deeper channels and fast, white water.

The Rectory

Approx. 1.5m of right and 1m of left bank main river salmon, trout, grayling and coarse fishing some 6 miles upstream of Hay on Wye. For salmon anglers, the beat is amongst the most productive in this part of the river and with 13 named catches, fish are caught at a wide range of flows. In-depth salmon fishing details are provided separately in the form of pool notes once a booking has been made. Wading difficulty at the Rectory is mixed with some easy areas such as the Gravel Catch and Bridge Flats. The rockier sections are more difficult to negotiate, especially the lower half of the beat, meaning studded soles are a must.
A season rod syndicate also operates on this beat so exclusivity is not guaranteed. However, there should never normally be more than 3 anglers on the water at any one time.
